  • Rev. Darrell Boggs - Pastor

    Darrell became the seventh Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church in July 2013.  He earned a BA degree from Mississippi College and a Master's of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.  He has also completed his Doctoral Residency in Education and Leadership from SBTS.  After serving churches in Mississippi, New Mexico, Kentucky and Indiana, he came to Richmond, Virginia, to serve as the Associate Pastor of Second Baptist Church. Later he was the Founding and Senior Pastor of Gayton Baptist Church, also in Richmond. He has facilitated in other church plants as consultant and organizer.

     

    In addition to Darrell’s ministry career, he has served as a college adjunct professor, a company CEO and a project director in a non-profit organization.  He was the Associate Director of Continuing Education and Supervised Ministry Studies at SBTS.  He has served on the Board of Directors for numerous organizations, including Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, New Look Youth Ministries, the Pan-African Foundation, and the Virginia Emergency Foster Care Program.  


    Darrell's wife Melanie is also an integral part of the congregation and plays a vital role in ministries throughout the church.

  • Rev. David Watts - Associate Pastor

    David began serving at First Baptist as their Associate Pastor in May of 2020.  He has a minor in Vocal Music and a BA in Bible Theology from Toccoa Falls College in Georgia.  He has completed courses toward his MA in Biblical Studies from Luther Rice Seminary.


    David brings over 39 years of ministry experience as a minister of music and assistant pastor in Pennsylvania and has served churches in staff positions and as senior pastor in Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia.


    David also has a passion for serving our local law enforcement as he currently serves as one of seventeen volunteer chaplains with the Chesterfield County Police Department. He is also the first volunteer chaplain with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.   

  • Bronwyn Lewis - Director of Music

    Bronwyn began serving as the music director at First Baptist Church in January of 2017. Bronwyn directs the adult choir weekly in rehearsals and in Sunday morning worship service. She is also a member of the Praise Team at FBC, where she is a vocalist and drummer. Bronwyn holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Washington, where she studied Psychology and Business-Spanish. She also studied private voice, was an active member in elite university choirs, and was the director of music for her on-campus a cappella choir. Bronwyn began her professional music career as a singer and dancer in productions at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia. She has also performed as a featured soloist in local works with colleagues and friends. 

     

    When she’s not at First Baptist, you can find Bronwyn serving as a Specialist for the Commonwealth's Public Guardian & Conservator Program at the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services. Bronwyn also enjoys spending time volunteering within the school system.  She and her husband Ryan reside in Chesterfield with their two loveable dogs.

  • Sheila Armstrong - Administrative Assistant

    Sheila joined the staff of First Baptist in March 2018.  She is a native of Hopewell and received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from James Madison University.   Sheila’s professional background includes serving as the Office Manager for a CPA firm in Colonial Heights, a reading coordinator for the Book Buddies program, and as the equipment manager for the James Madison University football team.  She has also worked several “side” jobs including load-in/out & runner for area concerts and events, stadium operations & security for the Richmond Braves, docent at Weston Plantation, and her personal business--which includes event planning & accessories, catering, and gift baskets/gift items.  Sheila volunteered with the GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Hopewell for nineteen years and served in many positions at the local, district, and state levels of Federation including Club President and Southside District Director of Junior Clubs; in 2015 she was presented with Honorary Life Membership.

     

    Sheila has attended First Baptist since 1996 and in that time has enjoyed working with the musical & drama productions in many roles and with Walk Through Bethlehem.  She and her husband Brent now split time between FBC and his church – Colonial Heights Baptist Church. 

     

    When not working, Sheila enjoys spending time with family, travelling, creating, crafting, decorating, home projects, baking/cooking, visiting historical sites/homes, and relaxing with a good read at the beach or pool.

  • GLORIA ANDRS - PIANIST

    Gloria joined the staff in September 1975. She is well known in the area for her musical abilities. Gloria is a graduate of Hopewell High School and has a Bachelor of Music Degree from Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU). While in college she accompanied the college chorus, many of the theatrical productions at R.P.I., and later shows in Hopewell and at Fort Lee. She has taught piano lessons to many youth and adults. A member of FBC all of her life, she accompanies both the Sanctuary Choir and the Singing Saints. She and her late husband Jerry have four grown children and three grandchildren.
